Oregon Bach Festival: The Protecting Veil and Howell's Requiem

Two 20th century works pair together for an afternoon of truly beautiful reverence and reflection. Drawing from Tavener's Russian Orthodox faith, The Protecting Veil pays tribute to the people of 10th-century Constantinople, who found the courage to fend off a siege when a vision of the Virgin Mary appeared to them. The soul-stirring cello concerto is followed by Howells' homage to the deep grief and eternal hope that often accompanies untimely death.
